You may know Jerry Jenkins as a botanist, and may perhaps have run into him in a swamp. But on Tuesday, October 2, Jerry will play tunes from New England, Canada, Ireland and Scotland on penny whistle and metal recorder during a free percussion concert by L’Ensemble at 7 pm in the Long Lake Town Hall.
Three other musicians will join Jenkins in an improvisational concert featuring more instruments than can fit comfortably on the stage, including a glass armonica, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, glockenspiel, all types of drums, saxophone, clarinet, flute and keyboard. The three players are
- Bill Hayes, who for 20 years has been the percussion for Liza Minelli’s band. Bill has recorded a dozen Original Cast Broadway albums and movie soundtracks ranging from Pocahontas to The Producers. Bill recently recorded an episode of MTV Unpluged with the group Korn.
- Joe Cardello, a West African and Brazilian drummer. Joe performs on Broadway in the Lion King, Hairspray and Tarzan. He has toured with superstars Ziggy Marley and Diana Ross.
- Bruce Williamson, a composer who plays saxophone, clarinet, flute and keyboard with a limitless passion for playing any kind of music: “inside” jazz, “outside” jazz, blues, soul, funk, Brazilian or classical.
